Bangkok to Siem Reap!!!

So first off sorry for the long delay between postings, cambodia has been absolutely crazy busy so far. We crossed over the border from thailand four days ago after a couple of frustrating days in bangkok. Trying to figure out the least hectic way across the border turned out to be very ridiculous. We spent two days running around bankok making phone calls and searching for none existent travel agents, all in all a major headache.

We finally settled on the mini bus from the guest house even though we knew we would be in for a bit of a fleecing when the time came to cross the border. The bus ride to the border went a million times better than our previous mini bus trip to pattaya. We arrived at the border around 11 having left bangkok at 7. Fifteen dollars more for the visa and two hours of sweltering heat while being herded around like cattle and we were through. We hooked up with some american guys who had taken the same bus and opted to share a taxi in to siem reap rather than wait around for another two hours for the bus to fill up.

The first impressions of cambodia were ones of utter poverty, the drive in passed broken town after broken town. We arrived in siem reap around 3 and spent an hour in a tuk tuk searching for a place to crash. After becoming thoroughly frustrated with our endevour we decided to part ways with our tuk tuk escorts to search on our own. Two geust houses later and we found a place to settle on for the night, as we were both exhausted and hungry from the long day.

We had a little bit of a crazy night finding our selves in a cambodian night club with only locals(and I mean only locals....bit sketchy at first but the came around and had a blast with us), after some food, beers and reveling in the main part of town. The following day we switched guest houses, opting to pay a little more for cleaner digs and a pool. The rest of the day was spent catching up on some much needed sleep and relaxing.

The next two days were filled with some of the most amazing things either of us has witnessed. We took a tuk tuk the first day out of town to see some of the oldest ankor temples in the area, followed by some of the smaller temples in the major ankor area. The are so amazing, it fathoms us to think of how many people it took to build this once great empire. Today was filled with the big temples of ankor wat, ankor thomb and an ancient temple that had been absolutely taken over by the jungle. Again absolutely breath taking, words cant describe the grand scale of these temples.

Tomorrow we are off to phnom phen via VIP bus ( were laughing because this probably won't be luxury). We will post some pictures of seim reap and us, jen!!! when we get to phnom phen.
